The goal of Kvemo Samgori Irrigation Project was to restore the irrigation system in the villages in Sagarejo Municipality, Kakheti region. Due to the fact that for a significant part of the population of the villages in the southern part of Sagarejo municipality, the income from agriculture constitutes a large part of their total income, the maintenance of the irrigation system would have a significant impact on the general economic situation of the population living in Sagarejo Municipality.

Assignment conducted by DEPA Consulting under Kvemo Samgori Irrigation Project, included quantitative survey (face to face interviews) with farmers in Sagarejo municipality target area. DEPA Consulting was provided with draft quantitative questionnaire, which was translated by the organization. The main purpose of the assignment was to analyze profit and other economic parameters for three different groups of farmers/ crop producers:

  1. Group of farmers/ crop producers, who used irrigation water as needed
  2. Group of farmers/ crop producers, who used irrigation water rarely
  3. Group of farmers/ crop producers, who did not use irrigation water at all.

In total 120 farmers/ crop producers were interviewed under the assignment. Economic parameters of these tree group of farmers/ crop producers were compared to each other in order to be able to predict potential result of restoring irrigation system in Sagarejo municipality.
