The World Bank has been requested to provide assistance to the Government of Georgia to finance the second phase of the Kakheti highway from Sagarejo to Badiauri (approx.17 km) - the Eastward link from Tbilisi to Lagodekhi (145 km).

The objective of the assignment was to help understand relevant development needs in the project area and priorities of the local population with regard to project activities in order to inform the project design, specifically the activities on improvement of selected tertiary roads, complementary small infrastructure and services to improve market accessibility, as well as gender gap analysis. The research targeted community leaders and community members, including but not limited to farmers, micro, small, and medium enterprises, roadside vendors, and persons involved in transport and logistics. The assignment involved two components: (i) Preparation of a Socio-Economic Study in the vicinity of the project area and (ii) Improving Local Market Development Opportunities.
